The benefits and details of leisure travel

One of the most popular modes of travel for all people is leisure travel. Many times college students will participate in leisure travel with their families and / or friends. Leisure travel according to Travel Industry Dictionary is defined as “travel undertaken for pleasure, as opposed to business travel.” When families and friends travel together, it is most likely for leisure purposes versus academic purposes. Traveling for leisure has many advantages and benefits, but it also has some disadvantages. One of the advantages of leisure travel is that there is more freedom and flexibility to choose and alter one’s own schedule. Individuals who utilize this mode of travel are not tied to an academic schedule and may not have any academic responsibilities while traveling. Students traveling for leisure have more freedom to choose when they wake, eat, sleep, and how they spend their time. Additionally, students will be able to choose where to stay, where to eat, who to be with, and what activities to engage in. This allows individuals to create their own schedule, making time to do anything from relaxing to sightseeing to exploring, possibly leading to a higher rate of overall happiness while traveling. Asako Maruoka, author of “The Many Benefits to Leisure Travel” explains that “traveling revitalizes and refreshes not only your body, but most importantly, your mind and soul as well.” Traveling for leisure allows students to relax, unwind, and explore on their own time, often resulting in a well-rested college student who may be far better positioned to be focused, productive, and engaged in their academic responsibilities upon their return.
